You've Heard About GA4, But What Should You Do?
We're sure you've been hearing about Google Analytics 4 and are wondering what you should be doing about it. Well, wonder no more! Here are the latest updates on Google's GA4 rollout.
First and foremost, what is GA4 and why should we care?
At a basic level, GA4 is the newest version of Google Analytics that is designed to help measure your users across both websites and apps. Google is mainly making the switch due to increased privacy concerns. The new analytics platform has more robust data protection and consent management capabilities, which will make it easier for marketers to comply with regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.
How soon are they implementing this new system on us?
The deadline to switch over to GA4 from Universal Analytics has been pushed back to July 1st, 2023. If you have a GA360 account, the deadline to switch has been extended to 2024. With that said, it is still important that you start planning your upgrade to GA4, to ensure a smooth transition and avoid any potential data loss. Here are some tips on what you can do today to get ahead of the game:
1. Create a GA4 account and begin familiarizing yourself with the new interface.
The sooner you do this, the more data you'll have available in GA4 when your deadline rolls around. The more familiar you are, the less of a learning gap you will have when it comes time to take action on this data!
2. Take advantage of the powerful new features.
Enhanced measurement capabilities and upgraded data visualization tools are only the beginning of what GA4 will surprise you with!
3. Start planning your export from Universal Analytics.
It is important to plan how you will export your data from existing UA properties. Your Universal Analytics data will only be available for about 6 months following the 7/1 deadline.
